Things to do in Tumbarumba and Surrounds

There are a variety of activities that you can experience during your stay in Tumbarumba. A simple search of the internet will assist in exploring the area.

The Pioneer Womans’ hut showcases the enduring legacy left by the earlier settlers of the district and is located a short 10-minute drive west of town on the Wagga Road.

Take a leisurely walk around town and check out the Sculptures on the Snowys. At the rear of the main street lies the Tumbarumba creek with its beautiful park like surrounds. There is a skate park which is a hit with the kids, and there is a new bike track under construction which will take the sting out of the most energetic child.

Then there is the rail trail, the first of its kind in NSW. A family friendly, 21 km sealed track with gentle undulations, meandering through local farmland on its path to the little village of Rosewood. There are stops along the way which showcase the history of our community. Don’t stress if you haven’t packed your pushy. Simply give Ride Tumbarumba or Tumba Bikes and Blooms a call. Both are conveniently located in the main street.

There are a variety of mountain bike tracks located around the edge of town which can be viewed through your preferred search engine. We are also excited about a new mountain bike park which is being constructed on Mount Tumbarumba.

If you happen to be a water sports fan, well, there’s plenty of water up this way that you can dive into. You can visit Blowering Dam near Tumut, Khancoban Pondage at Khancoban or the local favourite Sue City [Ohare’s Camp]. Mannus Lake is a great spot for canoeing and is located a short drive from town on the Jingellic Road. Travel a little further south and you can travel down the mighty upper reaches of The Murray River.

In Winter, the snowfields of Mount Selwyn are an hours’ drive from town and caters for the family. The resort was destroyed in the 2019 Bushfires but has been completely reconstructed with world class facilities. Unfortunately, the 2022 season had to be cancelled due to an overabundance of snow, which halted the final touches to the resort. No doubt 2023 will be bigger and brighter for Selwyn Resort.

There are various cellar doors located around the area and for those of you that would like to experience world class cool climate wines, well, you won’t be disappointed. Check out the list of all the wineries in the area.
